That orange number

Yesterday was a gorgeous sunshiney day to take a walk through Fremont and Ballard – my legs even got sunburned!  Then I rushed home with the borrowed SLR to snap this finish.

It is a little too orange for me, but it was great to take my #scrappytripalong blocks into my exploration of modern quilt design.  These were supposed to look like transistor chips, and so I was really happy when my SIL looked at the quilting and her first comment was “Oh these look like circuits!” I feel like this was my first improvisational work in quite a while and I loved piecing the back, which once again took longer than the front.

I put together a design wall this past weekend and I can only imagine what a difference this will make: I was laying out quilt sections and blocks and strips on my floor before!

First finishes of 2013

I started piecing this the day after Christmas and was able to present it to my mom and her husband last week. It was only started 8 years ago! I no longer have most of the fabrics that were used in this quilt because I gave them away when we had to move in Vancouver. So it is a little trip down memory lane and includes childhood clothing scraps and stuff. In some ways I like the back better, which is pieced from some Amy Butler I’d been hoarding over the years – good colors for my mama too.

And while I’m sharing, I taped my #scrappytripalong top up too…I kind of lost interest after four blocks (used some of my log cabin scraps too, had plenty left even after the pieced binding) and turned them into these little postage stamp dust bunny thingies. That is a lot of orange. My friend Toni loves orange but I wonder if this is too much for her.
